Chan Sung Jung vs. Dennis Bermudez | February 4 | UFC Houston
One of the most exciting featherweights on the roster is nearing a return. ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung will reportedly face Dennis Bermudez at UFC Houston in February.
The bout was first reported by MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani on Friday.
Jung (14-4) has long been one of the most exciting featherweights in the sport. ‘The Korean Zombie’ has not fought since his August of 2013 title fight vs. Jose Aldo. He was finished in round four following a dislocated shoulder. In October of 2014 Jung was to fight Akira Corassani at UFC Fight Night 53 in Sweden, but was replaced by Max Holloway after pulling out of the fight due to injury. Then in mid-October of that year, Jung began his mandatory military service in his home country of South Korea for two years. In 2012 Jung submitted Dustin Poirier in a Fight of the Year contender, and in 2011 he knocked out Mark Hominick in 7-seconds in Toronto. He also submitted Leonard Garcia with the first twister in UFC History.
Bermudez (16-5) has a 9-3 record in the UFC since joining the roster following TUF 14 in 2011. Following his debut loss to Brandão, Bermudez went on to win seven-straight, defeating names such as Max Holloway and Clay Guida. After that long win-streak, he was finished in two-straight fights, by Ricardo Lamas and Jeremy Stephens. He has since picked up solid decision victories over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Rony Jason.
This bout will reportedly be the main event in Houston.
UFC Houston will be a UFC Fight Night event on February 4, 2017. It is scheduled to take place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. No fights are officially announced for the event, but Johnny Case vs. James Vick is reportedly also in the works.
